TERMS OF USE
• Service description: iVOC involves using electronic and digital communications between patients or their guardians (users) and dental practitioner (provider). iVOC is a tool to assist in dental and orthodontic care. iVOC enables their users to submit photos of their teeth to their dental practitioners using smartphones, Tablets or even a PC.
• Benefits: iVOC might be useful for (a) online monitoring of ongoing dental orthodontic treatment and teeth/ gums condition; (b) conducting preliminary virtual advice to, based on the information provided and may change or be negated when the patients is seen clinically, determine if the users will benefit from dental/ orthodontic treatment and (c) help in managing emergencies in between appointments. iVOC cannot replace the expertise of dental practitioners. Therefore, users must continue to follow the recommendations of their dental practitioner.
• Limitations with iVOC: Some of the conditions that lead to adverse outcomes in the Dental/ Orthodontic are difficult, if not impossible, to diagnose and treat without an in-person clinical examination and if not diagnosed can lead to long-term problems. These conditions include, but are not limited to, periodontal disease (disease of the gums and bone), teeth decay, root resorption (shortening of the roots of the teeth) and oral pathology (lesions that may be harmful), all of which require radiographs and/or other imaging techniques to identify. The photography or digital imaging provided via iVOC can only give a superficial view and may be inadequate to identify all areas of concern. Although dental practitioners strive to provide excellent service using iVOC, treatment or recommendations based solely on Teledentistry using iVOC may not allow adequate monitoring of oral conditions, treatment progress or unexpected responses to treatment. Hence, it is highly recommended that the users talk to their dental practitioners to discuss their treatment in detail. iVOC is best used when a clinic visit is impractical or in between regular clinic visits and iVOC should be used in conjunction with clinical assessment by a dental practitioner.
• Risks & Inconveniences: Like other dental assessments, the use of iVOC service may involve some of the risks (a) in rare instances, irritation may occur due to the cheek retraction, (b) in certain instances, the upload of the records may not occur,
• Data protection: Although we have a strict data protection policy, when using electronic and digital communication in the provision of care, there is potential for the breach of confidentiality and/or inadvertent access of protected health information by someone other than your dentist/orthodontist as well as a risk that a loss of electronic communication could mean the loss of iVOC services.
• Acknowledgement: By using iVOC, the user and/ or their guardians agrees that they (a) agree on the preceding information describing using the iVOC system, (b) understand the benefits, risks, alternatives and inconveniences associated with the assessment as well as the option of not taking the assessment, (c) acknowledge that the dental practitioner and iVOC have not and cannot make any guarantees or assurances concerning the outcome of the users assessment and treatment recommendations without in-person visit to the practice, (d) authorize dental practitioner to release the users clinical record in his/her possession to third parties for the purposes of providing a more accurate assessment and/or treatment recommendation and for educational and research purposes, (e) acknowledge that use of the clinical record is without compensation and that they will not nor shall anyone on their behalf have any right of approval, claim of compensation, or seek or obtain legal, equitable or monetary damages or remedies arising out of any use such that comply with the terms of this Consent, (f) understand and agree with the privacy policy of iVOC.
